Too Human Metacritic Score in - Slightly Better Than Average
August 19th 2008 05:18
Games recently have set our gaming bar high... I should probably think about these openinig sentances a little more.... With most AAA titles lately hitting the 90%'s. Now enough votes have rolled in for Metacritic, the site that compiles numerous professional critics scores into one overall ratings, we can see that the gaming media doesn't think this is one of them, ranking Too Human as Slightly Better Than Average with a score of 67%.
Users have been a little more generous, but generally agreeing. 94 votes so far place the game at 69%. It would seem the badly received demo has resulted in a badly received game.
Silicon Knights must be more than a little upset. Ten years of development later and Braid outscore them. It's a tough job, making games for the masses.

Too Human is about players sculpting their ideal killing machines. If you enjoy leveling and looting, it's worth a look. If you only have a moderate interest, Too Human's aggravating gameplay and irreparable plot won't deliver many thrills. [Sept 2008, p.104]

The game is simply schizophrenic; it attempts to be all things to all people and never succeeds in executing any of them well. The end result is in dire need of polish and focus, and that doesn't solely apply to gameplay mechanics.
