The One Reason Too Human failed To Work
August 25th 2008 03:17
Too Human. You know how you feel about it by now. Even if you haven't played it, you probably have an opinion. And even those that had experienced the demo have come to the same realisation that the optimistic buyers have also come to: there is something wrong with the game. Strangely, it was while giving The Outfit the thirty seconds of gameplay it deserved that led to the answer as to just what it was that held Too Human back.
Really, all of the mechanics are there for a great game. Leveling, fast paced combat, elaborate sets, an amazingly cheezy storyline.... Everything we have been indoctrinated to know and love. But back to The Outfit. Strangely, it drew a parallel between the old and new, and it was there that I found the problem.
Too Human looks and feels like it should have been released years ago.
We gamers are spoiled for choice now. Have a look at the incredible detail in Mass Effect, the phenomenal physics of GTA IV, the storyline of MGS4, the artistry of Braid even. Too Human has none of these. And we had hoped and expected it would.
Too Human, for the ten years of development that went into bringing the game too us, somewhere along the line it was held up and released after its time. What would have been a launch hit today looks old and unpolished. And as much as we feel for it, the titles keep coming out, buying it in the gaming past.

Biggest problem about Too Human is it does need to be polished up. You can tell they rushed a lot of things since they had build up there own engine after dropping the UE3 engin.
Even with the flaws they could have fixed up I'm still having a great time with the game. A lot of stuff that reviews pick on is easy to look past, you just gotta take the game for what it is.Yeah you do a lot at the start but by the time to reach a higher level (I'm at lvl38) you die far less.

I played Too Human for about an hour or two and there were two big things that bothered me:
1) I was going up a huge flight of stairs. The stairs were moving and my guy's legs were moving, but they weren't moving together and it didn't look like he was actually walking up the stairs. This is forgivable, but I was never ripped out of the game in Gears of War, Halo 3 or GTA IV like that.
2) I was fighting this big mech guy. I needed some health so I went over to some canister things to get some. Suddenly a cut scene started. I figured later that my troops must have killed the mech guy which kicked off the cut scene. It just wasn't smooth.

You're not going to prove your points to each other. You know the other side won't listen. Have some balls and quit whining. Even if you are right - and you know it and I know it, just let it go. Some xbox fans won't like it. Some sony fans will cry. But both sides have equally fanboys, and both sides will complain too much, and no comment is going to change that. Both sides will say their rival whines too much but that comment in itself is whining. To those who aren't down with conflict, know that you have my respect.
Debate good and debate fine, but conflict brings no love.

I think the other guy is right, this is more of a fanboy fight than anything. Seems a lot of "other" system owners are feeling joy that one of the 360's flagship games is hitting poor reviews.
I've played a lot more since my first post. Dying in this game still pisses me right off, but I'm loving the game a lot more.
This is truly a solid game, and aside from dying (God damnit!!! I died again!!!!!) it's been worth the wait.
I play it on a 42" LCD, through VGA. Everything looks smoother on that I guess, but it looks excellent none the less. As for being a gamecube game, I think not, nice try... but no.
This IS a good game, lt's just hope for an update which makes it a GREAT game.

i mean seriously, there's no need to flame and call people virgins, it's a videogame guys. people do have their opinions and they're entitled to them.
but yea as a final note, i was never excited for this game, from reading about it, to seeing videos, to playing the demo. sometimes you can sort of see these things coming you know?
