Star Wars The Force Unleashed Wii - This Years Biggest Dissapointment?
July 9th 2008 05:48
Star Wars - Force Unleashed has begun to do the rounds in the hands-on columns of all of the major gaming sites, and from these reviews has come one definite thing - that we are still yet to see the sabre simulator we have been yearning for.
The first impressions of the game sound fairly promising, with the Wiimote controls allowing for some very satisfying force control, such as you pushing forward to unleash a little jedi power onto unsuspecting imperial grunts, smashing them backwards across the room. And the graphics appear passable, considering this is a standard def version due to the Wii's limitations. But pulling the player out of any immersion you may have felt to this point are the lightsaber controls. These are still basic directional controls, albeit a few more than any other console is offering. And although you can swing your bat around in the full 360' control in games such as Wii Sports, in Star Wars -The Force Unleashed, you are still stuck with a glorified analogue stick control scheme.
The opportunity here was unfortunately wasted. The fans who have been crying out for a true lightsaber experience in a game since the release of the Wii have once again gone unheeded. With all the promise leading to broken hearts, this could well end up being the biggest disappointment of the gaming year.
