S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky Preview

S.T.A.L.K.E.R began life as the game voted least likely to appear. Years passed before it finally arrived, so many that we thought the mock up game box would be placed on the shelf next to the new Duke Nukem. Thankfully the time was well spent, producing one of the most atmospheric games experienced, a brooding mix of desolate landscapes and grungy characters, covered in the dyamic lighting and weather effects that perfectly set the scene for a well fleshed out RPG set in post-meltdown Chernobyl. Amazingly, only a year later and the prequel is well down the development road. An eager and optimistic fanbase are expecting S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky to hit shelves and virtual stores on August 29.
Set one year before the events of the first installment, Clear Sky will take us through to the events leading up to the mysterious opening of Shadow of Chernobyl, where the main protagonist is introduced to the game unconscious and thrown from the back of a truck. A new lead character will be introduced, as will DirectX 10. As much as the original pleased the eye, early indications are that we will be blown away by the new level of detail.
This is without doubt one of the big releases of the year. The unique setting is sure to have been an inspiration to the team working on Fallout 3 as the grim and beautifully rendered world steps along similar, albeit darker lines. The last year will have given the team at GSC Gameworld and THQ time to iron out the dissapointing bugginess of the first release, handing us a slick, deep and fully realised product. Fingers crossed that it's out on time. The communities pitchforks are sharpened and torches at the ready.
