Australian Battle of the Bands - Rockband or Guitar Hero World Tour?

June 16th 2008 02:37
Guitar Hero World Tour

The rock god in Australian gamers has had to keep their leather pants on the hanger since the launch of Rockband across the rest of the globe. But the announcement of Guitar Hero World Tour has at last given us some hope.
In a move that is sure to win the lions share of the market, GHWT is slated to launch before Rockband, which is due out around September. There is a rumour building momentum though that Rockband may actually have it's release moved forward to combat this, although the extra features in GHWT may mean it's too little too late.

Guitar Hero World Tour looks to take genre to the next level. Now expanding the original guitar game to the rest of the instruments, we will be able to experience even more realism when creating lounge room music. The promise has been made that it will include the biggest list of songs available, with many studios providing master tapes for conversion. The current song list looks a little thin for old school fans though, with the likes of Linkin Park being touted as the drawcards. No mention of Australian icons such as INXS, Chisel or The Wiggles at this stage.
One improvement over Rockband will be the dynamic drum kit. If you thrash away at the skins the volume will increase to reflect the power of your stroke. Add two cymbals into the mix and you are very close to a real electric instrument.

Also justifying the price hike is the inclusion of fully wireless instruments, a necessity with so many people kickin' it in the same room.
There is also the mixed blessing of user created songs. We can look forward to a flood of aspiring stars first attempts and a few hits buried within.

Price wise we will be paying for these added features. Estimates are at AU$300 for Rockstar and AU$400 for GHWT. With the closeness of the launches of the two and the value of the added drum kit and wireless instruments you would expect that GHWT will emerge the winner.
My advice is to get your pre-order in now, the starved masses are sure to swoop on this one quickly.
