The two heavyweight first party titles from Sony and Microsoft are slated for a November 2008 release. Details have already been released and the battlelines drawn. We all know games sell consoles, so the winner between the two could help decide the winner of the christmas sales period. To help you decide, this article includes the known features and latest gameplay video of the two games.
Resistance 2
Features:
Two campaigns. A single player campaign and an up to eight player online co-operative (or two player split screen) campaign.
60 player multiplayer
The Leviathan, a Godzilla looking monster. The biggest boss will be over 300 feet high.
12 new Chimeran enemies, two of which will be called the Chameleon (which can cloak itself completely, charge toward you, and kill the player in one hit) and the Grim (which is a melee fighter that attacks in hordes, similar to the Gray Jack in the first game). Also, a new enemy called the "Fury", a creature that lurks in the waters.
New weapons include a long range semi-automatic rifle called "The Marksman" and the "Chaingun" a Minigun which has a secondary fire option that allows it to act as a shielded sentry gun.
Locations:
United States (chicago and the Californian Redwoods; Scotia the only confirmed locations) and Iceland.

Gears Of War 2
Features:
Characters can now melee with chainsaws.
Use "downed" enemies as shields orpunching them while they are on the ground.
Injured players can crawl. Players tap the 'A' Button to crawl faster etc.
The level of blood and gore will be increased.
Players can now play on individual co-op play settings. One player may, for instance, play on Casual while the teammate plays on Hardcore. A "communal combat system" will adapt to give a player at a lower difficulty an equivalently fair challenge at the player at higher difficulty.
Save files will work in co-op, allowing players to drop in and out.
Tour difficulty levels, the newest being below casual.
New enemy creatures are planned on being added, including one described by Cliff Bleszinski as one "that [makes] the Brumak look like a baby panda bear."
Story-based items such as personal letters and medical records, and a "war journal.
Face rendering technology of the Epic engine, and will use more dramatic angles for the conversation.
New weapons and vehicles. One of which Cliff describes as a "tank with monster truck wheels."
10player multiplayer with three online multiplayer modes, called "Guardian," "Wingman," and "Meatflag." "Guardian" is essentially a modified version of "Assassination" from the original Gears of War, but allows players to continue fighting until the leader has been killed."Wingman" places players on teams of two, where they both play as the same character."Meatflag" is a version of capture the flag, in which players attempt to 'down' an enemy controlled by the game's AI, and move its body to their team's base to earn points.

To the 360 fanboy, you make us look bad! Sales shit! The greatest game on earth may not work for everyone, some may hate it's genre. Gears sales where because of it's hype and media exposure, then because it was a great game. Resistance was a launch game and for being a LAUNCH game is was pretty good to begin with. But now I really do believe R2 has just shut the mouths of every critic who said it was not going to get any better and G2 would be far superior. That chaingun looks wicked to top things off, at least I'll have my chainsaw. Still feels empty though, getting the same game with 2 pasted on the end of it.

For people who say that GOW2 will be better because it got GOTY award, do you remember that there were no real games that year. And a game that got a GOTY award becuase of lack of games is not going to beat a game that has improved tremendously with better and more features.

Im sure both will be fun games to own and the developers will make sure we get our money's worth. But gears of war is in a league of it's own.
Human shields, Live flags, matrydoms, more options for cover and destructable enviorments will set back any differences resistance 2 might have. Not to mention 4 player co-op.
8 player co-op you say? Nothing is like the running for your life, saving your buddy stop n pop action gears of war provides.

Gow2 looks like an awsome i hav to admit. if i had a xbox 360 i would buy it. but i dont really need all the gore to hav a fun time. ANYWAYS there are some cool features. like the multiplayer skill lvl thing. i hope im not pissing any fan boys off but to me i think the person on the harder lvl is only going to hav less health and get damaged easier. but you cant really do anything else with that feture. there looks like to be some epic battles in gow2. i havnt heard much about gow2. and i guess i should hav checked if they had a podcast like insomniac and i dont know if they had a xbox 360 day (sony had a ps3 day thing or something like that so games could release information about their games) so sry. the graphics are going to be better but they arnt supposed to be "alot" better. dont quote me but theirs a rumour a vague rumor (so dont get mad xbox fan boys) that gears 2 graphics arnt going to be alot better due the lacking of power in the xbox. REMEMBER DONT QUOTE ME!!!! anyways i wish i could say more about gears 2. i havnt really played the first one. please but the online hopefully isnt as boring as mgs4 online. but that is one thing i hav to say. Res was so succseful online due to how fun it was. just being able to sprint out of little hidding spots and not dieing from being shot in the head once which is a jerk. anyways i hope the best for these two games. and really WHO cares they are both big releases for each counsole. sony and microsoft should be teaming up and destroying nintendo Wii for making crappy games and getting huge audiences!!!! like really!!! Despite that I think ill sell my Xbox Because the ps3 has Resistance 2 And KIllzone 2, and combined they're way better.
Resistance i dont know much about but it looks like a load of fun.
Also gears 2 is definetly not the same old stuff. They have new executions grenades can be proximity mines its crazy

it had much better graphics, and it was just plain fun!!
resistance had ok graphics, the gameplay, and vehicles were excellent, but i fucking hated the chimera. they all looked exactly the same except fot the bosses.
wtf!!! there's like no ammo in resistance for your guns.
but still, i think gears of war 2 will be way better, despite the fact that that huge reptile thing standing 300 feet is going to be a boss we have to fight in resistance 2
(clear your calendars guys, because that is gonna be a bossfight to remember)
And for all of u who said gears of war 2 looks exactly the same.... no, gears of war 2 is the most graphically stunning game ive ever seen and while 60 player online is friggin awesome, 5v5 is just as good.
