PS3 Set To Be The New Home For MMO Gamers
September 4th 2008 00:51
Ten Million Gamers. That's how many potential new customers await the console that can create the best MMO experience. And in these early days, Sony are set to take the lions share.
In recent times the two Sony and Microsoft have taken serious steps into the mass market of gaming. Both have embraced casual gamers (hereafter refered to as the common folk) and have indicated that the next step will be towards the MMO market. The Xbox 360 prides itself on its online experience and community, but fans of games such as World Of Warcraft, Eve Online and that guy still playing Pirates Of The Carribean may find their new home on the PS3.

Star Trek Online and the Knights Of The Old Republic MMO are rumoured to be cross platform and currently in development, but it is easy to see that Sony have the ascendency. And if you consider the IP's already under their belt, such as Everquest and an ill fated Star Wars attempt, there is a lot of room for expansion. On the flipside, the 360 has had Marvel Universe cancelled (which was to be a MGS joint venture), and untried or non-MMO converted games in the wings.
The 360 already has gamers paying for online play, and although so far there has been value in this, with Sony catching up in its offering there is little chance gamers will be happy to pay for a twelve month subscription to Live Gold as well as a monthly MMO fee.
All in all, as it stands at the moment, Sony are leading the way in the gaming market that has the more players than there are people who own consoles (you'll have to take my word for that, I can't find the original article) and that's a huge PC gamer base who might consider a console if they don't already have one. Sony's move into the MMO space looks to be a good one.

No, I cannot take your word for it. Please provide factual proof of the statement.
Also, There is a game called Phantasy Star Online that's playable on the Xbox 360.
Sony Online Entertainment only knows how to defraud their customer/fan base. Their games have been and continue to be dumbed down while development on their games is purposly misleading to the point of being decietful.
If there were any one reason to not own a PS3, and the great games that are coming out for it, it is SOE.
