No New Consoles For Ten Years?

Brian Farrell, CEO of THQ, believes that it will be at least seven years before we see a new console released. And Epic Games President Mike Capps has as similar view, stating that the next generation is unlikely to start for up to ten years.
"One of the things I like about this generation is we are still very early and there's still a lot of room for growth … as we move down those price curves," says Farrell, "Those engines have a lot of steam left in them. We think it could be seven or eight years before new machines start to roll out."
Epic Games (who have worked very closely with Microsoft on AAA titles) President Mike Capps recently said the company estimates new systems will not hit shelves until somewhere between 2012 and 2018.
These are opinions that should be carefully considered, particularly that of Epic. It is likely that they will be involved in a high profile launch title for any new console, praticularly that of the Xbox360. With AAA titles taking three to four years to develop, and Intel and Nvidia still in very early stages of chipset development for the next generation, it is unlikely that a new console could be produced and shipped earlier than believed by the developers.
