Microsoft's Plan To Buy Nintendo: How Gaming Would Have Been Different Today
September 17th 2008 03:32
In a recent interview with guardian.co.uk, Peter Moore mentioned that Microsoft had at one point considered how they might give Sony a couple of old fashions knuckle sandwiches by purchasing Nintendo. You might put the idea down to ink poisoning from the various tattoos blazed across his body, but what would Microsoft's most famous franchises look like if they had?
HALO 3
The Wii controls are perfectly set up for a FPS. Twin Spikers aimed through the Wii-Mote, vehicles driven via a Mario Karts style setup, you name it, you can simulate it. Halo 3 cross platform online play with the PC would be more competitive with console gamers able to aim much faster than the standard 360 controller. I want in.
GEARS OF WAR
Chainsaw controlled by the Wii-Mote, complete with piercing sound emitting from the controller and vibrating as your weapon ground through bone... Enough said.
VIVA PIŅATA
The garden would be filled in classic Mario characters, probably adding the much needed star appeal that the otherwise solid game lacked. Mario would tend the garden and defend it from those cursed tortoises and Koopa Kids who would come in to attack your candy filled Piņata. Not for everyone, but how much better would the game, and Mario already has his gardening outfit on.
On the console front, things may not have been extremely different. Of course we would now have a 1080i Wii system, and an Xbox would at last have a web browser.
We know you couldn't quite save the Dreamcast Mr Moore, but acquiring Nintendo would have relegated that to the annals of history and created the greatest gaming console in the history of the universe. Too bad really, it's probably a little late now.
