Microsoft Freeze Hiring Within Xbox Division
October 7th 2008 04:05
The economic situation in America, combined with the new slimline look Microsoft has adopted for it's gaming division, has combined with the news that the Xbox and Zune divisions will be freezing all new employment.
Silicon Alley Insider confirms the news, including the statement from spokeman Lou Gellos, saying "Microsoft will continue to grow and add thousands of new jobs this year, but given the current economic environment we are taking the prudent step of reviewing our hiring plans and will make some adjustments as appropriate. We are optimistic about our prospects for growth and will continue hiring the talent we need to ensure our ongoing success."
An email leaked by an unnamed insider gave the details, though what this means to any titles currently in development is yet to be confirmed.
According to Silicon Knights, the production cycle of games includes a spurt of new talent injected into proceedings during the more hectic periods. Fortunately the biggest christmas season titles would not be affected as they are practically ready to ship at this time of the year.
