This one comes via a reputable source, although even they refreshingly admit it is pure speculation.
OXM (Official Xbox Magazine for those who have forgotten printed materials exist) have delved into the Gearbox HQ and come out with a doozy - that Gearbox is working on Halo 4.
Now they seem not to be the types to cease at one bombshell. Why not get the console fanboys in a frenzy as well as the Halo zealots? The finale? That Halo 4 will be the launch title for the new Xbox.
Joystiq remember that Gearbox Software big boss Randy Pitchford teased his studio's next project as something "big, bigger" than anything Gearbox is currently working on" back in February.
And as we already know, much of the Halo franchise has been taken back by Microsoft, including one or two of the Bungie team. Even Bungie have jumped in and let it be known that they can love another and want to develop outside of the Halo universe for a few titles.
Whatever the project is, Pitchford has said he'll be directing it himself, adding, "When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one."
