Ghostbusters Unlikely To Be A PS3 Exclusive?
August 8th 2008 03:45
Rumour: Ghostbusters has had the rough end of the proton beams so far, being cast aside after the latest round of mergers and finding itself still without a home. The suggestion now is that Sony may pick up the pieces and keep them to themselves, and though there is some evidence pointing in that direction, it is less than conclusive.
For the affirmate, we know that Ghostbusters IP is owned by Sony Pictures. A good start. Secondly, we have the words of the developers themselves. They point towards the PS3 version being the preferred platform, saying to Psxtreme that it will be a "fuller experience on Sony’s platform." This could be due in part to the way in which the hardware was able to be utilised. Sierra Entertainment apparently had to reserve one whole processor core to do dolby digital surrsound sound and had to limit themselves to half a core on the Xbox 360 and emphasized that so much more could have been done with the game if it was a PS3-only title.
Okay, now for the negative. And we have a pretty strong case here. The game is all but complete for the 360. This shoots a massive smoking hole into the exclusivity argument.
There is little chance that Ghostbusters the game will not be picked up by someone. With the 25th anniversary of the film next year, you would think the logical thing would be for Sony to combine the hype, perhaps with a bundle to celebrate. If this were the case, you could put your money on a PS3 timed exclusive, which would still be a cou for Sony. Take a side and lets see how this pans out.
