Diablo 3 A Console Exclusive For 360?

Blizzard COO Paul Sams has suggested that there is the possibility of bringing Diablo 3 to the console market, but suggested that he would want to see console gamers able to play against PC players. "One question mark I have is whether the console owners would allow PC players to play against console gamers." says Sams, "I think the answer gets a lot easier if the console owners say yes. But at the moment they do like to have closed systems."

At the moment, the only console that could make this vision possible is the 360. Although it has not proven particularly popular, the cross platform connection has already been utilised, see Shadowrun. Is Sams saying as much here? "When you are developing for multiple platforms you sometimes have to compromise. We aren't willing to compromise. We have relationships with all the console manufacturers. I know they would love to have us on their platforms, ideally on their own and not their competitor! But it's all about the game experience."

If this is the case, who could offer the best experience? And without hating on the PS3 fans, who are living in a time where they are on the cusp of a very positive turning point, you would have to say that a fair conclusion from these words is that if we were to see Diablo 3 on a console it might first appear on the 360.

pretty biased opinion my friend, any other guy in his personal blog could say "And without hating on the 360 fans"

you should know how closed is the XBL and how limited the cross gaming is, the proof is UT3 for the 360, but it's your opinion and it's pretty biased BTW

We dont want console gamers on battle.net, stick to your shitty consoles where it belongs and your retarded gamepad. Of course we will hate on the console gamers who enter, we will single them out.

I'm forced to disagree. Diablo would certainly be more at home on PS3. That exact genre of game has a VERY good track record on PS2 and PSP. Baulder's Gate, Champions of Norrath, Dungeons and Dragons, Untold Legends, there are others. All sold very well. And hasn't Sony already done cross-platform gaming a few times as well? FF11, Phantasy Star Universe, The Agency is cross platform on PS3. I think it was done on another game or two that I can't think of. And if my hope comes true, and Guild Wars comes to PS3, I'm also hoping it's cross-platform with the PC players. I REALLY hope that's the first thing NCSoft is working on.

the ps3 has full keyboard and mouse support, and NO reason why it couldn't work with the PC. why would it make more sense to go to 360? Why couldn't it go to both for that matter. PCv360, possible. PCvPS3, possible. PS3v360, yet to be seen, and most likely not possible based on XBL's closed structure. I would personally rather see it go to PS3 though because it really does seem retarded to play this game on a gamepad.

Well to be honest the game pad is not as retarded as you would think for this type of game. Champions of Norrath and that sort of game have done it for years, with the invention of analogue sticks controlling movement rather than the D pad it makes all the difference.

I played D1 on PS1 and it was my favourite game on that console and I played D2 on the PC and I always wished it could come to PS2 (But couldn't due to its size)

I really hope that they bring D3 to PS3 as with it's Battle.net structure rather than MMO and the fact that now consoles are online rather than 4 players on one screen, this could be awesome

at the moment im 100% sure that the picture shown is from WoW, and we all know its not going to look exactly the same as WoW now is it? Blizzard doesnt exactly have a long track record of emulating to consoles, sure there was Starcraft for the N64, but look on the SC2 site and it is clearly stated that 2 will not be moved to any consoles, im about 95% sure the same goes for Diablo 3 "StarCraft II is being developed for Windows and Mac. We have no current plans to bring the game to any console platform." Really Long Link Unless they make some last minute changes, however unlikely. If D2 didnt make consoles then D3 wont either.

I would love to see this on ps3 it would not be awkward to play on PS3 i played diablo 1 on PS2 and it worked fine. if anything it would be the touchy better than you Pc gamers that would be most offended by us consoles invading there smelly dark computer room

It would make so much more sense for Blizzard to make Daiblo 3 a console game also. Not only would they make a lot more money, it would increase the amount of players you could play with online. I honestly could care less about wether I play an online game with a PC gamer or a console gamer. The only real point that I care about is when we team up to accomplish a task, that they pull their weight and do their part for the team.
I just feel like Blizzard would target a much bigger audience if they included consoles. I could be incorrect, but with gamers I know, there are less and less of them playing PC games. One of the main reasons I feel guys I know aren't playing PC games anymore is the fact that the system itself is going to cost a few hundred dollars more than the average console system. That's a huge turn off for me. Plus with how well HDMI is effecting the picture quality of projectors, it makes no sense to play on a 30" screen or smaller.
PC gamers can argue all they want. They just don't have anything to offer me that my console can't already do
